NOTE: Change username to your username as shown in the virtual serial port field in the WFView settings tab. xcvr_serial_port:/Users/ username/Library/Containers//Data/Downloads/rig-pty1 In the file there is an entry that starts with xcvr_serial_port: you just need to add the long path from WFView after the colon on the same line as shown below. flrig folder in your home directory and manually enter the path to the correct field. The way around this is to edit the settings file IC-705.prefs in the. The problem with FLRig is that it won’t allow you to type in this path to the serial port field, it only has a drop down list that doesn’t include this path. Users/ username/Library/Containers//Data/Downloads/rig-pty1Ībove soft link used by WFView (Replace “ username” with your username) In my WFView setup I selected the first virtual serial port in the drop down list and so this soft link (AKA Symbolic link) gets created each time the WFView app is started. The softlink is created with the same name each time the app is started but, it just points to the next /dev/ttys00x port available. It’s quite clever in that it doesn’t actually directly use the port, each time the WFView app is started it creates a softlink to the next port after the one it last used. It seems to round robin on ports 001 to 006. Upon further inspection it appears that WFView uses a different /dev/ttys00x port each time it is started. I’m glad to say that I have now resolved this issue and detail it below. In my “IC-705 Going Wireless with Apple Mac Computers” article I came across an issue whereby I couldn’t enter the correct path into FLRig to get the application to talk to WFView for CAT control of the IC-705 radio. Get a TRRS cable at the local store in the phone section and chop the other end off and connect up to the Easy Digi board for Computer audio in and out.Screenshot showing WFView, FLRig and FLDigi all working wirelessly with my IC-705 (you have to add your own cables to the kit) I have heard the Texas FSQ Digital net also talk about their use of these low cost kits which has prompted me to post them here in the Digital section of Corps.Ĭurrently I have tested them on a Raspberry Pi3 along with this $7.95 TRRS sound card. I got both an entire complete setup and the 2 board kit that sells for $7.95. Hi folks, I have tested these “Easy Digi” since May 2018. This comes in to your computer through your sound card, so you can decode these signals into text from a Shortwave Radio Receiver or even a recorded audio file.Ĭlick HERE to learn more about digital communications.ĭigital Communications Downloads: Ham Radio Deluxe FLAMP FLDIGI RMS Express Note: No Ham Radio License required to receive digital communications. Digital communications Send or receive text messages over radio using your computer’s sound card or using a Signalink. However, it does not require an internet connection for transmitting and receiving-it uses radio waves. It just sounds like a ‘humming or buzzing’ noise while transmitting to anyone monitoring the frequency without the digital equipment.ĭigital communications does require a computer since it uses software such as fldigi. Another benefit is, digital communication can only be “decoded” by others set up for digital communications. Digital communications requires less power, transmits farther and is reliable even in poor conditions.
